Learning Journeys
Study abroad at any age
Our educational safaris are inspired by university study abroad courses but raised to the level of comfort of our classic trips. incorporate experiences and themed talks led by researchers, academics, community activists, and other experts from East Africa and around the globe. Our educational trips fall into two categories, conservation and cultural immersion, which can be combined for an interdisciplinary learning experience.
The conservation trips are led by experts from the College of African Wildlife Management, Sokoine University College of Forestry, Wildlife, and Tourism, the University of Dar es Salaam, Zanzibar Institute of Marine Sciences, the University of Nairobi, Rwanda Wildlife Conservation Association, and international conservation researchers who will take you along on to see and sometimes participate in their ongoing field work. These also involve visits to community-managed conservation projects in wildlife management areas, conservancies, marine parks, and other protected areas. At Adumu Safaris, we are especially communites to community conservation efforts that protect wildlife and provide host communities with nature-based livelihoods. You will be amazed and encouraged to see a range of innovative work to conserve precious ecosystems and species conceived and managed by local people!
Cultural immersion trips incorporate talks and expert-led immersive activities featuring academics from the University of Dar es Salaam, the University of Nairobi Institute of Anthropology, Gender, and African Studies, the Institute of National Museums of Rwanda, Makerere University, local historians, organization leaders, activists, and community pillars/elders to provide an in-depth cultural learning experience. These trips include some Kiswahili language training, and occasionally an introduction to other tribal languages. Homestays are offered for an eye-opening and in-depth cross-cultural learning experience but are optional.
