Destination: Randilen Wildlife Management Area
Accommodations: Randilen Ecoscience Science Center
Activities: Randilen Tour; Walking Safari; Game Drive; Evening Yoga
Transit Times: Arusha to Randilen WMA – 3 hrs

After an early breakfast, your naturalist guide will drive you to Randilen, a community-owned Wildlife Management Area, part of the Tarangire-Manyara ecosystem, governed by the local Maasai. The Tarangire -Manyara Ecosystem is among the richest areas on the planet for large mammal diversity and abundance, and is a world hotspot for ungulate diversity. It hosts the second-largest population of Elephants in northern Tanzania. In the late morning, check into the Ecoscience Science Center, a satellite in Maasailand for scientists and students. Each tent of 65 sq.m, with en-suite bathroom, sleeps 2 “scientists”, each with their own desk and internet connection. Today will be an educational day full of wildlife viewing by car and on foot and learning about the unique experiment of the Randilen WMA, an encouraging example of Maasai co-existence with wildlife that conserves wildlife and allows Maasai to hold on to their ancestral lands and live in their low-impact traditional ways. Your Adumu Safaris expert guide and Randilen guide will show you around the WMA. An exciting opportunity at Randilen, which is not permitted in many National Parks, is walking safaris where you can track and view wildlife on foot. Walking with all senses alert is an unforgettable experience. Follow animal tracks, identify bird calls, and learn about the local plants from your Randilen guide. Retreat to Ecoscience for lunch. After lunch, embark on a game drive and other adventures. From the comfort of your 4×4 Landcruiser, look out for elephants eating the sausage tree fruit–a favourite delicacy. With luck–and some patience–you may catch a lion hunt, a glimpse of the shy but beautiful greater kudu, or see a pack of African Wild Dogs on the move. Amidst wildlife adventures, you will learn about the anti-poaching, human-wildlife conflict, and other projects run by Randilen rangers and Maasai community members. You will also get to visit one of the nearby Maasai villages and talk to locals about the benefits of the WMA to their livelihoods. After an adventurous day, return to Ecoscience and enjoy group yoga in an open-air tent with views on all sides of the wild savannah plains. Enjoy dinner with the group and tuck into your private tent for a well-earned night of sleep.

Destination: Lake Manyara National Park
Accommodations: Rhotia Valley Tented Lodge
Activities: Game drive; Yoga
Transit Times: Randilen to Lake Manyara – 1 hr; Lake Manyara to Lodge – 1 hr

After breakfast, depart for a morning drive to Lake Manyara National Park, which lies at the base of the western wall of the eastern arm of the Rift Valley. Typically shimmering in a golden heat haze, the lake is often frosted with thousands of flamingos, while the trees that surround the lake are famous for their tree-climbing lions. The park also offers abundant sightings of monkeys, jackals, mongoose, hyenas, hyraxes, zebras, hippos, warthogs, buffalos, giraffes, duikers, waterbucks, and impalas. Significant numbers of elephants are also resident in the park, while sightings of black rhino and leopard are not uncommon. Enjoy a picnic lunch in the park. In the late afternoon, check in to Rhotia Valley Tented Lodge, built in a traditional African style with indigenous hardwood to be in complete harmony with its surroundings. The lodge offers a breathtaking view of the Ngorongoro forest, nearby villages, and the terraced fields of the local farmers. Each of the comfortable tented houses has its own veranda with a splendid view of Ngorongoro Conservation Area and Lake Manyara. Your stay at Rhotia Valley Tented Lodge will directly contribute to the well-being of local children. The profits that we make from your stay at the lodge go straight to the Children’s Home and to two local schools of Rhotia. All meals feature produce from in-house herb and vegetable gardens, fresh baked goods from the bakery, and homemade milk, butter, yoghurt, cream and cheese from the dairy. Everyday, the Bakery provides the bread to the Lodge, the Children’s Home and to the schools. The bread is also sold to the local shops and the local institutions. All profits directly support the Children’s Home and the whole project. End the day with some sun salutations on your private veranda or as a group on the lodge’s open-air terrace. Immerse yourself in the calm and intimate charm of your private tent for a restful night’s sleep.

Clean water, three meals a day, clothes, access to education, and a safe place to sleep–the proper care they need so much–is guaranteed. The children love to play soccer, games, or do arts and crafts with the guests. If you like, you can even lead the children in a kids yoga session! You may also choose to visit the farm, gardens, bakery, and dairy which provide for the children and Rhotia guests. Destination: Ngorongoro Conservation Area; Serengeti National Park
Accommodations: Pumzika Camp
Activities: Game drive; Yoga
Transit Times: Lodge to Ngorongoro Crater – 1 hr; Ngorongoro to Camp – 2 hrs

After an early breakfast, take-off for a morning game drive in the world-famous Ngorongoro Conservation area. Ngorongoro Conservation Area is a rare protected area where people (the Maasai) and wild animals coexist in harmony. A large permanent concentration of wild animals can be found in the huge and perfect crater. Ngorongoro is technically a caldera, the largest sunken ancient caldera in the world. Estimated three million years old, the once-volcanic Ngorongoro is now considered one of “Africa’s eighty wonders”. Also known as the “Garden of Eden”, the crater floor is a natural safe haven for thousands of animals such as wildebeest, more than two hundred lion prides, zebras, elephants, hippos, hyenas, Thomson gazelles, African buffalo, crocodiles, ostriches, and many species of birds, not to mention that this is one of the best places to spot an endangered rhinoceros. Make your way through Serengeti National Park to arrive at Pumzika Camp, an eco-friendly tented camp reminiscent of the first safaris at the turn of the 20th century, with furniture made by local craftsmen and decorated with handmade carpets woven by the Mbulu women’s community. Set inside the Seronera area, Pumzika occupies a unique and privileged paradise within the Serengeti, far from main roads and civilization, surrounded by the two of the biggest and most prolific lion prides in the park. Settle in, enjoy a yoga practice beneath an acacia tree on the open savannah followed by a fresh bush dinner.

Destination: Serengeti National Park
Accommodations: Pumzika Camp
Activities: Game drive; Yoga
Transit Times: Leisurely game drives throughout the day

After breakfast, continue with both morning and afternoon game drives in Serengeti National Park. Here you are certain to get up close and personal with the “Big Five” (Lions, Elephants, Rhinos, Leopards, and Cape Buffalo), if you haven’t already, and hosts of other iconic and lesser-known species. Given the vast terrain, weather patterns, and migratory patterns of the innumerable species, many animals of the Serengeti are constantly on the move. This makes for an adventurous game drive! Your drives will depend on the move of the migrants; your expert naturalist guide knows very well how to locate the herds. Back at camp, don’t forget to fit in some sun salutations amongst the most iconic wildlife! Bush lunch and bush dinner will be at Pumzika. Rest to the sounds of wildlife calling in the distance and crickets gently chirping outside your tent.

Destination: Serengeti National Park; Karatu
Accommodations: Country Lodge (Karatu)
Activities: Game drive; Yoga
Transit Times: Serengeti to Ngorongoro – 2 hrs; Ngorongoro to Karatu – 30 mins

Be sure to soak in the majesty of the wildlife and landscapes of Tanzania’s most iconic game parks! Check-in to Country Lodge, located on the outskirts of Karatu, a quaint country town on the Great Escarpment, midway between Lake Manyara and the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. Garden paths led to eleven double cottages surrounded by green lawns, hedged by brightly flowered bougainvillaea, tropical plants and trees. Birds and butterflies feel right at home in the garden, as you will in your private cottage.
