Itinerary
Destination: Zanzibar; Dole; Kizimkazi
Accommodations: Karamba Zanzibar
Activities: Transfer to Zanzibar; Spice farm tour; Yoga; Spa treatment (optional)
Transit Times: Flight from Seronera to Zanzibar – 2.5 hrs; ZNZ to Dole, 25 mins; Dole to Kizimkazi 1 hr, 15 mins
After breakfast, you will be driven to the Seronera airstrip to board your flight to the magical island of Zanzibar, which lies just off the coast of Tanzania, for a sublime conclusion to your East African holiday. After arriving at Zanzibar airport, you will be met by an Adumu Safaris representative and taken 16 km to a rural Spice farm for a signature spice tour. Zanzibar is known as the “Spice Island”, a name that evokes a romantic past infused with the particular aroma of cloves, cinnamon, cardamom, and lemongrass. Today, these and many other spices, herbs, and tropical fruits are cultivated on the same plantations that have been producing them for centuries. A Spice farm tour will take you on a walk through the plantation to sample a variety of mouth-watering tropical fruits and spices. The tour additionally includes a bit of history with a visit to the Kidichi Persian Baths and the Maruhubi Palace Ruins. After the tour, walk to the outdoor kitchen to prepare a sumptuous Swahili meal using many of the spices and fruits you have just sampled, with the guidance of an expert Zanzibari home cook. Afterward, continue south to the fishing village of Kizimkazi in Menai Bay (the largest conservation area in Zanzibar) on the southwest coast where lies Karamba Zanzibar, a tropical paradise of Palm trees, Banana trees and a lush garden with local flowers, white sandy beaches, sparkling clear warm water in turquoise lagoons and colorful coral reefs teeming with abundant marine life. Check into your seafront cottages and enjoy some time relaxing at the lodge. Yoga is a perfect afternoon activity led by the lodge’s instructor or by your own group in an intimate setting of open atmosphere overlooking the Indian Ocean, which will induce relaxation and inner stillness to emerge. Hari om. Afterward, you might want to indulge in an Ayurvedic spa treatment or massage followed by a swim in the infinity pool or the ocean. The dolphins in Menai Bay of Kizimkazi are known for being habituated to humans, so swimming here means an opportunity to swim with these playful, friendly creatures! Dinner featuring homegrown produce is in the lodge restaurant followed by amazing sunsets and stargazing. Sleep to the sound of waves lapping outside your door.
Destination: Zanzibar; Kizimkazi

You are also likely to see some of the 50 butterfly species, 40 bird species, and several species of snake. Next, head to Jambiani Village for a tour and service visit. These community-based and led tours are different from day to day since village life also varies, but you will gain a glimpse into rural coastal life, and you are sure to witness the seaweed farming and production of local handicrafts that are always going on there. Visit the village school, meet the children, and distribute donations that you raise before your trip, if you wish. Proceed to a village mama’s house where she and her friends will show you how they make a Swahili style lunch with the fresh abundance the island has to offer. Return to Karamba to simply relax by the pool or at the beach. If you’re a snorkeling aficionado, head out to some of the best coral reefs in the world to spot multitudes of colorful fish and other sea life. Destination: Fumba Beach
Accommodations: Karamba Zanzibar
Activities: Dhow safari with sandbank yoga
Transit Times: Kizimkazi to Fumba Beach, 1.5 hrs; several hours sailing leisurely; walk from Menai Bay to Lodge
Wake to the sound of waves and step out onto the sand for a nice stretch! After a tropical breakfast, set sail into Menai Bay where you can glide alongside pods of dolphins, which local conservation efforts have allowed to flourish. Mid-morning, land on a powdery sandbank and enjoy a yoga practice in the sun under the clear Zanzibari sky, then snorkel over two different reefs, both offering a variety of pristine marine life. After working up an appetite, the Kwale Island “restaurant” is ready and waiting for your arrival where you will feast on a freshly prepared tropical buffet. Taste 10-15 of Zanzibar’s exotic fruits, and sip on Amarula and coffee. Mid-afternoon, discover all that Kwale island has to offer: sail on a traditional ngalawa canoe, explore the mangroves, climb an ancient baobab, witness the coral formations, swim or lounge the afternoon away on a day-bed on the beach. Finally, in late afternoon when the day is done, the crew hoists the lateen sail as you make a leisurely voyage back to Kizimkazi as the sun sets on your glorious day in paradise. Beach dinner with more sunsets and stars, and more waves lulling you to sleep.
